Our Story
Patria Mezcalería was born from a deep connection to Mexico’s agave culture and the belief that great food, exceptional spirits and genuine hospitality bring people together.
Chef Octavio Ruiz
From the highlands of Jalisco
Led by Chef Octavio Ruiz, whose roots trace back to the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico, Patria celebrates the traditions, craftsmanship and flavors that have shaped generations. Inspired by the agave fields of his homeland and influenced by Atlanta’s vibrant culinary scene, Chef Octavio has created a destination where authentic Mexican heritage meets contemporary dining.
More than a restaurant, Patria is a gathering place: a space where friends, family and community come together to share memorable meals, discover exceptional agave spirits and create lasting connections.

A new chapter
Formerly Pata Negra
Patria Mezcalería, formerly known as Pata Negra, is the next chapter of a family-driven vision rooted in Mexican flavor, hospitality and gathering around the table. Inspired by the spirit of its sister concept, Patria Cocina, the restaurant has evolved into a more vibrant, agave-forward experience centered on bold flavors, handcrafted cocktails and the energy of bringing people together.
Our food
Mexico’s diverse culinary traditions
Drawing inspiration from regions across the country, Chef Octavio combines authentic techniques, quality ingredients and contemporary presentation to create dishes that are both familiar and unexpected. From shareable plates and street-food favorites to elevated specialties, every dish reflects a respect for tradition while embracing innovation.
Our name
“Patria” means homeland
It represents our connection to the places, people and traditions that shape who we are. We honor the rich cultural heritage of Mexico while embracing the diversity and energy of Atlanta. Every dish, every cocktail and every guest experience is rooted in a sense of belonging, pride and community.
The family
Also from Chef Octavio: Patria Cocina
In Grant Park, Patria Cocina is where it began in 2018: a family-owned kitchen rooted in Jalisco, a celebration of agave, and the Agave & Mole Club.
